Liliana Reardon crowned Sportsperson of the Year

Competing in both individual and team sports, and excelling at all, it has been a busy year for Warialda’s Liliana Reardon.

Nominated by both Warialda Public School and Warialda Pony Club for a Sports Council award, there is no denying that Liliana is a worthy recipient of this year’s major award, Sportsperson of the Year, presented at the annual awards night held on Friday evening.

Local athletes in the spotlight

Warialda Sports Council will hold its annual sports awards presentation dinner at the Golf & Bowling Club on Friday 24th November 2017. The awards are held to recognise and acknowledge local sporting achievement over the past twelve months. This is a great way to promote sport in the community and to congratulate our local sports boys and girls, men and women, and encourage them to continue to lead an active sporting life.

Horse community comes together for injured rider

Professional competitors, decorated helmets, fun and laughter mixed with amazing generosity were some of the highlights of the recent Warialda Campdraft Committee’s #jump4em, an event held in support of Emma Botfield.

The three-day campdraft program kicked off on Friday, 20 October, attracting elite drafting competitors from across the state and other supporters travelling long distances from around Australia.  A prize pool upward of $10,000 drew in the competitors and saw around 800 runs over the weekend.

Warialda well represented in national rugby competition

Local Rugby 7s players Kearni Churchland and Rhiannon Byers have wrapped up their campaign with the University of New England, one of eight sides that contested the inaugural Aon Uni 7s competition.

The competition kicked off in August, with the first round held in Tasmania, followed by tournaments in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Warialda Wasps claim McGregor Gourlay Cup

Both the weather and the rugby was heating up on Saturday, when the Warialda Paper Wasps took on the Croppa Creek Crows in a battle for the very first McGregor Gourlay Cup.

Unfortunately for the crowd and ladies on the bill, a late withdrawal from Scone meant the local girls were without an opponent, and the match was cancelled. The Wasps v Crows game was to be the only game of the day - and it did not disappoint!
